English: Figure. Porcelain figure of Zhongli Quan decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, Wanli period (1573-1620), Ming dynasty. Zhongli Quan is leader of the Eight Daoist Immortals, and is shown dressed as a scholar and holding a fan. The Eight Immortals were among the most important figures in popular Daoism, each figure having a different appearance, clothing and associated symbols, and their own special powers. Most were originally figures in Chinese history, who were subsequently mythologised. Zhongli Quan lived during the Han dynasty, and possessed great powers including a fan with magical abilities that could revive the dead, and transform stones into silver or gold.
