Summary

Description Kumano Hongu-Taisha Shrine is the Head Shrine of over 3,000 Kumano-jinjas in Japan and is one of the Three Great Kumano Shrines. Hongutaisha was originally directly adjacent to the confluence of three rivers the Kumano, the Otonashi and the Iwata but after a large flood destroyed the shrine at the end of the 1800's it was relocated a few hundred meters away from the rivers ontop a large spur of one of the nearby mountains.
