Description |
Svenska: I tavlans mitt Josef som omfamnar Benjamin. Josef klädd i fotsid dräkt av guldbrokad eller dylikt, röd hermelinbrämad mantel och turban. Tilll vänster åtta män, tre av dem på knä. Till höger en man samt bord med guldpokal och två böcker. Signerad och daterad G.V Eeckhout fe Ao 1657. Dukens baksida och spännramen täckt av gult papper. Bred förgylld ram, en list med förgyllda metallbeslag. Bredd 155 mm. Bakpå högra ramlisten skrivet “No 1” med rödkrita. På ramen lapp “Josef och hans bröder. Orginal af J. van Liewen”. The painting depicts the scene in Genesis 45:14 where Joseph reveals himself to his brothers and embraces the youngest of them, Benjamin. The dramatic setting directs the light towards the center of the composition with the two figures embracing. Signed and dated G.V Eeckhout fe Ao 1657. The painting was given as gift to the Östra Ryd church of the Rydboholm estate and the current owner Abraham Brahe who was also the owner of Skokloster Castle, by Charles De Geer in 1722. It was later transferred to Skokloster Castle in 1848. |
