English: A photo of the parallactic instrument built and used by Dutch astronomer Jacobus Kapteyn, used to analyze glass plate photographs of stars seen from the Southern hemisphere (South Africa, photos made by David Gill). Constructed around 1886, used to gather data for the Cape Photographic Durchmusterung.
