English: On this day, the Senate first passed the Defense Authorization Bill by a vote of 73-26. The Senate then passed the Defense of Marriage Act on a vote of 85 to 14. They then took into consideration a bill that would prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation. The bill failed to pass by a vote of 49-50. The Senate then considered a spending bill to fund the Treasury Dept, the U.S. Postal Service, and other related agencies.
