Description |
English: The Danish artist Bertha Wegmann is known above all for her portraits. Active in Denmark and on the continent, she was exposed to a variety of influences. This woman in profile, dressed in black in front of a patterned curtain, recalls one of the most famous pictures of the period: Whistler’s Mother , painted by James
Abbott McNeill Whistler in 1871, exhibited in London and Paris, and popularised through prints. This portrait is a new acquisition, bought for the Nationalmuseum in 2012. |
