Fireworks AI is an American artificial intelligence infrastructure company headquartered in San Mateo, California.[1] Founded in 2022 by former Meta engineers, the company provides AI inference and model-serving tools that allow developers and businesses to deploy, customize, and operate generative artificial intelligence models, including open-source large language models.[2]

History

Established in 2022, the company was founded by a team of engineers from Meta's artificial intelligence and machine learning groups. Its co-founder and CEO, Lin Qiao, previously led the PyTorch team at Meta.[3]

In 2024, Fireworks AI expanded adoption of its AI inference platform among developers of generative AI applications. Cursor worked with Fireworks AI to deploy its Fast Apply model and support its custom speculative-editing system.[4]

The company raised $52 million in a Series B funding round led by Sequoia Capital in July 2024, bringing its total funding at the time to $77 million.[5] It later raised $250 million in a Series C funding round in October 2025 at a reported valuation of $4 billion. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Index Ventures, and Evantic, with participation from Sequoia Capital.[3]

In July 2026, Fireworks AI raised $1.51 billion in a Series D funding round at a reported valuation of $17.5 billion. The round was led by Atreides Management, Index Ventures, and TCV, with participation from existing investors including Nvidia.[6]
