Franck Debié is a French geopolitical scientist born March 24, 1966 in Mulhouse (Haut-Rhin).[1]

He now heads the 'EP2025' foresight unit within the office of the Secretary General of the European Parliament.[2]
Biography

editFranck Debié was born on March 24, 19661 in Mulhouse.[3] After studying in preparatory classes, he joined the École normale supérieure. He obtained a degree in geography as well as a degree in history from Paris-Sorbonne University in 1987. He obtained a master's degree in geography in 1988, then a DEA in 1989. He was then admitted to HEC Paris, where he obtained a Master of Science in business administration in 1992.
In 1990, he passed the geography aggregation. After obtaining his aggregation, he studied at the University of Oxford as a Besse Scholar, in preparation for his doctorate. In 1996 he obtained a doctorate in geography at Paris-Sorbonne University on “the geography of peace at the end of the Cold War”, under the direction of Paul Claval.
Career
editSince its founding in June 2000, he has directed the Center for Geostrategy at the École normale supérieure in Paris and also teaches international risk management and European issues at HEC Paris.[4]
In 2002, he joined Alain Juppé's team as director of studies for the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP). In 2004, he was appointed general director of the newly created Foundation for Political Innovation, chaired by Jérôme Monod.[5]
In October 2008, he gave way to Dominique Reynié and took over as political director of the European Ideas Network (EIN), a network of think tanks of the PPE-DE group at the European Parliament in Brussels. Franck Debié has worked with the Secretary General of the European Parliament, Klaus Welle, since 2011. Since that date, he has headed the 'EP2025' foresight unit within his office and is part of the steering committee of the European Analysis and Forecasting System (ESPAS) which brings together foresight experts from the European Commission, the General Secretariat of the Council, the European Parliament, the European External Action Service, the Committee of the Regions and the Economic and Social Committee.[6]
He is the author of several works on the Middle East and the Balkans.
He is a member of the Diderot Institute (Paris), directed by Professor Dominique Lecourt.[7]
