Free South Moluccan Youth (Indonesian: Pemuda Masjarakat)[1] was a terrorist organization with the proclaimed goal of restoring South Moluccan independence from Indonesia. The group and its factions were responsible for several attacks in the Netherlands in the late 1970s.
The first case was the siege on the Embassy of Indonesia, The Hague in 1970.[2] The 25 members involved were Ambonese exiles. Ambassador T. A. Natactiziruzrat and his family were absent[3] and the group turned to taking ~30 civilians hostage.[4] The group surrendered and turned themselves into the police hours later. However, an officer was fatally shot beforehand.[3] They committed train sieges in 1975 and 1977, engaged in 2 or 3 shootings, and had 5 aborted plans of kidnapping and sieges.[5] In 1975, they attempted to kidnap Juliana of the Netherlands, but were arrested on the drive to Soestdijk Palace.[1] South Moluccan groups and the Dutch government signed an "peace treaty" in 1986.[6]
