Galerie Claude Marumo was founded in 1952 by Claude Marumo and his wife, Micheline Leymarie. The gallery specialized in 19th & 20th century painting and drawing,[1] particularly the Barbizon School. Located at 243, Rue Saint-Honoré, the gallery quickly gained a reputation for its focus on landscape painters, a movement that heavily influenced later developments in European art, such as Impressionism. Claude Marumo was recognized as one of the leading experts on the Barbizon School,[2] which included artists like Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Théodore Rousseau. His gallery was a center for collectors and scholars alike, who sought his expertise in authenticating and appraising works from this period. Marumo's reputation extended internationally, as he became the authoritative expert for the works of Paul Désiré Trouillebert, one of the significant figures associated with Barbizon. His gallery also contributed to art history through exhibitions, publications, and collaborations with institutions.

In 2008, Galerie Claude Marumo moved back to its original location on 23, Rue Peletier in Paris, where Claude Marumo started his art dealer career together with his father Paul Henri Marumo. There he continued to operate until his retirement in 2013.
