Golden Matonga is a Malawian investigative journalist. He is a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and has worked on cross-border investigations including the Pandora Papers and FinCEN Files.[1] He served as chairperson of the Malawi chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) from 2023 to 2026.[2]
Career
[edit]Matonga worked as an investigative journalist for The Nation. He later joined the Platform for Investigative Journalism (PIJ) in Malawi.[3] Matonga joined the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in 2021.[4] His reporting has appeared in the Financial Times, The New York Times' and the Mail & Guardian.[5] Matonga was elected chairperson of the Malawi chapter of the Media Institute of Southern Africa.[6]
Awards
[edit]Matonga was named Blogger of the Year at the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Media Awards in 2017 and again in 2018. He received the Raphael Tenthani Columnist of the Year award in 2018.[7] Matonga was named Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi's Investigative Journalist of the Year and Overall Journalist of the Year for the year 2022.[8] Matonga was a 2023–2024 Hubert Humphrey Fellow at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.[9]
