History

Before March 1992, Except Kota division, every division of Rajasthan was having a Medical College. The long awaited need of Medical College in Kota division was fulfilled by the state government by making decision for that purpose on 10.02.1992.The college started in 1992 in a portion of ESI hospital, Kota with Dr. R.L. Ajmera as its principal. It moved into its own spacious campus in 1997. MBS hospital and JayKay Lon were the associated hospitals while NMC hospital is the latest addition.

The number of MBBS seats were 50 at the beginning which has now been increased to 250, from 2019 batch. Besides MBBS, the college offers MD/MS and superspeciality programmes.

Government Medical College, Kota is situated at Rangbari Road, about 14 kilometers away from Kota junction railway station and about 10 kilometers away from Rajasthan road ways bus stand.

The campus comprises the college building, administrative block, auditorium, indoor courts and gymnasium, E-Library, E-Classroom, boys’ and girls’ hostels, guest house, faculty and staff accommodation, new Medical College Hospital and an independent branch of SBI.

The non clinical and paraclinical subjects running in this triple story college building are Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic medicine and Preventive & social medicine. A spacious examination hall, four lecture theatres with sitting capacity of 300 students in each theater, central library and a well equipped conference hall are also situated in the college building.

Courses

1. MBBS - The admissions are on the basis of merit with constitutional reservations, done by the centralized process by Govt. of Rajasthan. The breakup of seats is 15% by DGHS though All India PMT of all seats. The course structure and content is set according to the guidelines laid down by the Medical Council of India. It consists of 9 semesters each of 6 months duration. The first 2 semesters are devoted to the pre-clinical subjects - Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry and after this period of 12 months the 1st Professional examination is held. The maximum marks are 200 for each subject. In the next 3 semesters, the student studies and is examined in Pathology (150 marks), Microbiology (150 marks), Pharmacology (150 marks) and Forensic Medicine (100 marks). During this period the students also introduced to the clinical subjects through lectures and clinical postings by rotation. During the last 4 semesters, the students studies only the clinical subjects - Internal Medicine including Cardiology and Neurology, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry, Dermatology and Community Medicine through lectures, demonstrations and clinical postings.

3.Post Doctral (DM, M.ch) • Year 2013 started DM Neurology with intake of 2 seats. • Year 2017 upgraded from 2 to 4 seats. • Year 2020 Recognized by NMC with first batch. • Year 2018 started with MCh Urology 2 seats We have been granted LOP for 4 seats in the academic year 22-23. . Along with this LOP has been granted for • 2 seats in MCh Neurosurgery 2022-23 • 2 seats for DM Nephrology 2022-23 • So now there are 12 super speciality seats in GMC Kota
