During the opening week of Hello, Love, Goodbye on August 1, 2019, lead actor Alden Richards and director Cathy Garcia-Molina expressed openness to working on a sequel for the film despite the latter's confirming plans to retire from directing to focus on her family.[3] On August 26, 2019, lead actress Kathryn Bernardo has also expressed similar sentiments on doing a sequel for the film.[4]

On May 19, 2024, Deadline Hollywood confirmed that Star Cinema and GMA Pictures will be collaborating together on developing the film, with Bernardo and Richards reprising their respective roles as Joy and Ethan. Cathy Garcia-Sampana was hired to direct the film's sequel, and is targeting for a November 13, 2024 release in the Philippines.[5]

A teaser trailer features the character Joy in gazing at Canada's snowy mountain. The film's sequel centers on Filipinos in Canada. Screenwriters Carmi Raymundo and Crystal San Miguel narrate Bernardo and Richards' blooming romance amid their hardships and challenges as OFWs. On May 19, 2024, Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, Kriz Gazmen and Carlo L. Katigbak, among others held a joint press conference of the upcoming film, showing the start of the movie collaboration between ABS-CBN and GMA.[6][7]
