I removed some unsourced statements I had added in the section on tones (and really the only issue directly pertinent to lv tones and IPA is that one shouldn't use tilde for the level/drawn tone as it's already reserved for nasalization and that's about it.)

Now there is only the dilemma of whether diphthongs with i's in closed syllables should be transcribed as sequences of vowel plus glide /j/, e.g., /tejkt/ for teikt. This is something that I've seen being done so I mentioned it but now I realize that it might not be the best thing to do as diphthongs are one of the types of tone bearing segments and transcribing them as V + j might not be the best idea as V + j no longer counts as a "long segment" in Latvian while a diphthong does, e.g., /têikt/ bears a broken tone. Approximations

Monophtong e in English approximation is rather 'bet', eː is rather like 'Fergus'. Diphtong o is not really pronounced as Lithuanian uo (uɔ) but rather ua, like in french 'roy' but with stress on the first vowel. --Apekribo (talk) 10:55, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

Example for the sound [æ]
