Major General Joseph Narh Adinkrah is a Ghanaian military officer who served as Chief of Army Staff of the Ghana Army from 31 March 2009 to 4 April 2013.[1][2]

Early life

Joseph Narh Adinkrah was born on 19 April 1950 in Somanya, in the Eastern Region of Ghana.[3]

He attended Accra Academy from 1965 to 1970 where he obtained his General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level Certificate. He enrolled into the sixth form at Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi from 1970 to 1972, with intermittent military training during the holidays.[4]

On completion of the sixth form course, he did a one year training at the Ghana Military Academy and was commissioned into the Ghana Army as a Second Lieutenant on 21 July 1973.[3] From February to April 1998, he attended the International Defence Management Course at the Naval Post-Graduate School, Monterey, California, in the United States of America. Adinkrah is also a 2005 graduate of the South African National Defence College’s Executive National Security Programme.

Military career

In March 2009, Adinkrah was appointed as Chief of the Army Staff in a total change in the army high command under President John Atta-Mills.[5] Before his appointment as the Chief of the Army Staff, he was the General Officer Commanding of the Northern Command of the Ghana Army.[6]
