Faizal Khan known professionally as Khan Sir (pronounced [ˈxɑːn sɪɽ] ; (Born 1993), is an Indian Educator, Philanthropist and Youtuber based in Patna, Bihar. He was also listed in Forbes India's 30 under 30 in 2019.[1][2]

Early life & teaching career

Khan Sir was born in a middle class family in Patna in Bihar. His father worked as a contractor at different places and his mother was a housewife. During his school days, Khan Sir studied in a CBSE school till class 10th after that he did his 12th in a BSEB school. He grew up in a middle-class family and faced several financial struggles during his childhood. Despite this, he was determined to achieve success in his life from childhood itself.

Khan wanted to join the Indian Army and serve the nation and he was doing very well too but he failed in Army medical because his hand was little tilted and he was unfit to join the Indian Army. So, therefore after completing his schooling he went on to pursue his graduation from Magadh University. After his Graduation was completed he started his career as a teacher in Patna. In 2010, he founded the Khan GS Research Centre, which aimed to provide quality education to students from underprivileged backgrounds. Within a very short span of time, he became very famous among the children because of his unique way of teaching. In 2016, he also founded the Khan Academy, which provides free online education to students across India.

In 2019, when COVID wave hit the country and eventually everything was closed because of Lockdown by the Government, his coaching in Patna was also closed. At that time, with a whiteboard he Started his YouTube Channel named Khan GS Research Centre and Started uploading videos and teaching online on YouTube. Soon After Starting his YouTube Channel he started to get World Wide Recognition because of his unique way of teaching and making difficult topics easier and intresting. Thereafter he never looked backed, He started teaching online as well as offline both. He also launched an app in 2021 and started offering online courses to the students who were not able to come to the city to study offline. Today, his channel is the most subscribed educational YouTube channel in the country with over 23 Million+ views and over 2.36 Billion+ views.[3]

Controversies

  • On 24 April 2021 Khan Sir had shared a video on France-Pakistan relations eventually the video went viral and pique the Netizens and the debate eventually got divided into 2 groups. Many X (Twitter) users didn't like the video and criticised the video heavily and said called 'Khan Sir Islamophobic' and some Muslims claimed that he is not a Muslim but a Hindu whose real name is 'Amit Singh'. As soon the video went viral people started trying to find out more information about Khan Sir and there they found some pictures of him celebrating Raksha Bandhan, a festival which is mainly celebrated by Hindus. After which he himself had to issue a clarification on YouTube.[4]


  • On 27 January 2022 An FIR was lodged at Patrakar Nagar police station against six teachers of different private coaching centres, including YouTuber Khan Sir, and 16 others in connection with violent protests over the Railway Recruitment Board’s non-technical popular category (NTPC) examination. The FIR was registered on the basis of statement of some protesters who were taken into custody by the police during the violent protests at Rajendra Nagar Terminal.[5][6]

Attacks at KGS

  • During the initial days, when Khan Started his coaching center in Patna, then the other coaching institutes started getting worried that how is he teaching students at such a low cost. This was concerning to them as this could badly effect their business in the name of coaching. Due to which, they had sent bombers to blast at Khan GS coaching center, Patna. They threw three bombs out of which one among the three bombs even entered inside Khan Sir's office but the bomb didn't blast and he was saved.

Recognition

  • In 2022, Khan Sir appeared on Sony TV's The Kapil Sharma Show. He was invited on the show along with Vivek Bindra, CEO & founder of Bada Business Pvt Ltd and a motivational speaker and Gaur Gopal Das, who is an Indian monk, lifestyle coach, and motivational speaker. He talked about many things there. According to him, the fee for preparing for the UPSC examination is about Rs 2.5 lakhs, while he charges only Rs 7500 from his students, that too only if the student is capable of paying that much fee if the student is not capable of paying that much also then he teaches them free of cost. He also revealed on the show that he is followed by Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon on instagram.[7][8]


  • In September 2023, Khan Sir received appreciation for his teaching skills from Amitabh Bachchan on the show Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 15 Khan Sir made an episodic appearance along with Zakir Khan, a comedian and poet, on the show. During the show, Khan Sir explained the concepts of electrons, protons, and neutrons to Amitabh Bachchan, who expressed his deep appreciation and stated that he would carry this knowledge with him throughout his life. Khan Sir and Zakir Khan take home Rs 12,50,000 home as the hooter rings and the episode comes to an end. Later they donate all the money to the needy peoples.[9][10]
