A post office called Kingston was established in 1836.[3] The community has the name of James King, a first settler.[4]

Kingston first appeared as a census designated place in the 2020 U.S. Census.[6]

As of the 2020 census[7] there were 20 people, 42 households, and 33 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 93.90 inhabitants per square mile (36.25/km2).
