Etymology

edit

The Krieg surname comes from the Middle High German word "krieger", meaning "warrior" or "soldier"; However, some instances of this name are no doubt derived from the word "kriege", which means "obstinate" or "cantankerous". The surname could come from "kriegen", which means "to get" or "to achieve", but these are assumptions. "Krieg" would be at first a nickname, but at some point it would become an hereditary surname when surnames started to be used. [1] [2]
