History
editAfter debuting originally in 2014 as Smut, a solo project from Ale Campos, the group expanded with the addition of Emile Milgrim in 2017.[3][4][5] After adopting the Las Nubes name, they released their debut album SMVT via Sweat Records Records in 2019.[6][7][8] That same year, Las Nubes were named "band of the year" by Miami New Times.[9]
At the 2019 Miami Art Week, Las Nubes backed Iggy Pop for a set of songs by The Stooges.[10][11][12] After this, Iggy would play Las Nubes on his BBC 6 Music show,[13][14] and Campos would feature in his "Loves Missing" music video[15] before joining his band as guitarist.[16][17][18]
In March 2020, Las Nubes released a split EP with Palomino Blond on BUFU Records, which saw their music featured by BrooklynVegan, Talkhouse, NPR Music, and Filter.[19][20][21]
They followed this with LIVE NUBES: Live & Session Tracks 2019-2021 in May 2022. The compilation featured Iggy Pop on a performance of "I Wanna Be Your Dog."[22][23]
Las Nubes issued the Enredados / Drop In single via Thurston Moore's Ecstatic Peace Library label in December 2023[24][25][26] before returning with their second full-length album, Tormentas Malsanas in June 2024.[27][28][29] The album was released through the Sweat Records Records, Spinda Records, and Godless America labels,[30][31][32] and premiered on Under the Radar magazine.[33] Supporters of the album included KCRW,[34] WKDU,[35] KDHX,[36] WMBR,[37] KRUI-FM,[38] FM4,[39] and Mondo Sonoro.[40]
In promotion of Tormentas Malsanas, Las Nubes guested on Damian Abraham's Turned Out A Punk podcast,[41] and recorded a live session for KEXP,[42][43] a station which had been supportive of the release.[44][45]
