History
editLiam Vickers began as a writer at the age of 17 after watching creepypastas on YouTube and feeling inspired to write stories with his narrations.[‡ 2] He would soon create his first YouTube channel named "Scary Story Time With Liam" in 2013.[‡ 3] He spent about 6-7 years writing Creepypastas and music on the channel and gained a fan base for his style of writing. His most notable work from the channel is a story series named Design. This would become the most popular series on the channel and a huge stepping stone for Liam's career.[‡ 4]
Around 2015, Liam launched his second channel, "SpoopTime". This channel was intended as a dumping ground for his classwork at the University of Southern California. Primarily animations, but also featuring several original songs.[‡ 5]
In 2018 he created a third channel named Liam Vickers Animation where he uploaded his post-USC animation work.[‡ 6] Shortly after he officially graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Animation and Digital Art, Liam gained the profession of a Storyboard Artist. As an animation artist, he uploaded test footage for a long-existing project titled "Let's Split Up", originally started during his time at USC under the title "Split", this footage was uploaded on February 10, 2018 on Liam Vickers Animation, which sparked more interest than anything uploaded to SpoopTime;[‡ 7] this motivated him to create more animations in future.
On July 26, 2020, Liam announced that he was discontinuing the Scary Story Time With Liam channel to pursue his career in animation.[‡ 8] Since then, Liam has interned at Netflix Animation, Sony Pictures Animation, Warner Bros. Animation, Nickelodeon Animation Studio, and DreamWorks Animation.[2]
Animated series
editCliffSide (2018)
editThe first major project of Liam Vickers was named Cliffside.[‡ 9] Cliffside was worked on entirely by himself, and it was in production for over a year.[3] The pilot episode was released on May 20, 2018. The story is about a town in a valley where all sorts of monsters live. A self-confident teenager, his apathetic partner and a spider-girl saves Cliffside from a rather unconventional evil. Cliffside was very well acclaimed in the growing realm of Indie Animation, notable for its goofy humor and unique characters, the pilot has been garnering over 10 million views as of 2024.
Internecion Cube (2020)
editAfter the success of Cliffside, Liam made several animatics under the tentative title of Internecion Cube.[‡ 10] The story of the series follows a 15 year old boy named Max who steals a cube from the government, whom is an AI capable of destroying the whole world. He and his classmate Kirie Bonin team up to save the world from an unknown threat related to the Internecion Cube. Internecion Cube was made for the purpose of storyboard practicing for Liam Vickers to push himself to see what he could do.
According to Liam, Internecion Cube was a practice sequence to practice storyboarding in his free time.[‡ 11] However, it quickly attracted the attention of fans, and its popularity grew thanks to the support of communities on YouTube and other online platforms.[4] As of 2024, the series is on an indefinite hiatus as Liam Vickers went to work on Murder Drones.
Murder Drones (2021)
editMurder Drones is an indie animated series created by Liam Vickers, beginning with a pilot that was released onto the Glitch Productions YouTube channel on October 29, 2021.[‡ 12] It was produced in collaboration with Australian animation production company Glitch Productions. Liam Vickers acted as a screenwriter, storyboard artist, and character designer.[‡ 13] Liam had also voiced several minor characters throughout the show.[5] It is the first work of Liam Vickers that got picked up by a studio and turned into a show.
Murder Drones was a huge success in the rapidly growing indie animation industry on YouTube and has garnered over 250 million views across 8 episodes as of 2024. It was well received by both audiences and critics for it's mix of comedy and horror elements. However the show was criticized for its fast pacing and convoluted storyline.[6]
