  1. ^ Certain award groups do not simply award one winner. They acknowledge several different recipients, have runners-up, and have third place. Since this is a specific recognition and is different from losing an award, runner-up mentions are considered wins in this award tally. For simplification and to avoid errors, each award in this list has been presumed to have had a prior nomination.

Made on a budget of $15 million, Ex Machina grossed $36 million worldwide[2] and received critical acclaim.[3][4] The National Board of Review recognised Ex Machina as one of the ten best independent films of the year and at the 88th Academy Awards the film won the award for Best Visual Effects and additionally was nominated for Best Original Screenplay. At the 69th British Academy Film Awards and at the British Independent Film Awards 2015, Ex Machina received five nominations each and won four awards at the latter ceremony. Vikander's performance earned her Golden Globe Award, BAFTA Award, European Film Award and Saturn Award nominations as well as several critic award wins.
