It does not include extant earldoms which have become merged (either through marriage or elevation) with marquessates or dukedoms and are today only seen as subsidiary titles.   3. Earls in the Peerage of Great Britain
  4. Earls in the Peerage of Ireland created before 1801
  5. Earls in the Peerage of the United Kingdom and Earls in the Peerage of Ireland created after 1801
