Lynfa Davies (born August 1957) is a Welsh beekeeper and researcher.
Early life
[edit]Lynfa Davies was born in August 1957 and grew up on a dairy farm in the Cotswolds.[1][2][3]
She graduated from Aberystwyth University with an honours degree in Agriculture.[3]
Career

[edit]Davies worked as a research technician at the Centre for Dairy Research at Reading University for three years, then moved to the Institute for Grassland and Environmental Research in Aberystwyth, working in their ruminant metabolism unit. She spent around ten years working at Hybu Cig Cymru (Meat Promotion Wales), focusing on R&D as well as animal health issues.[3]
Since at least 2018, she has worked at Farming Connect, which is the Welsh Government's programme for supporting and advising farming businesses, as well as their collaborators Menter a Busnes (Enterprise and Business) and Moredun.[1][2][3][4] She is currently the habitats and biodiversity officer for Farming Connect, as well as a Knowledge Exchange Manager, focussing on establishing on-farm projects to increase the uptake of new technologies on farms in Wales.[3][5]
In 2024, as Farming Connect's Biodiversity Specialist Officer, she argued for using less artificial fertiliser for farming in order to boost fungi levels in the soil and improve soil health.[6] And, in the same role in 2026, she oversaw a study into the populations of farmland birds in Wales.[7][8][4]
Beekeeping
[edit]Davies has been keeping bees since 2005.[5] She completed the modules and assessments to become a Master Beekeeper in 2015,[5][4] and, in 2019, she achieved the National Diploma in Beekeeping,[5] one of the few holders of the qualification.[1][2]
She keeps between 10 and 30 hives for honey production, as well as rearing her own queen bees.[1][2][3][4]
She is a member of Aberystwyth and District Beekeeping Association,[4] as well as a member of the Welsh Beekeeper's Association Learning and Development Committee.[5] Lynfa teaches new beekeepers how to look after their bees,[3] tutoring for the National Diploma in Beekeeping and running workshops for the beekeeping conferences.[5] She also has an online beekeeping course.[1][2]
In 2024, she wrote The Beekeeping Year, a guide for beginner beekeepers.[1][2]
Personal life
