Life
editSánchez is concerned about the damage done by Texaco-Chevron in Ecuador. In 2012 she witnessed a waste pit that was nearly a kilometre long. One woman told her that she had lost four relatives to cancer.[1] She was elected to be a member of the fourth legislative period of the National Assembly of Ecuador in May 2021 to represent the province of Orellana.[2]
After she was elected in 2021, Enriquez became a member of the Permanent Commission of Education, Culture, Science, Technology, Innovation and Ancestral Knowledge.[3] Other members of that commission include Ana Raffo, Isabel Enriquez and Zolanda Pluas.[4]
She was a member of the Unión por la Esperanza (UNES) in the assembly. On 9 March 2022, there was a vote to undermine the president of the Assembly, Guadalupe Llori. Sánchez was absent so the critical vote was not obtained.[5]
She was one of the 80 members of the assembly who voted to impeach Guillermo Lasso.[6] As a result, Lasso resigned using a "cross-death" clause in the constitution which required all the members of the assembly to resign as well.[7]
She joined the Permanent Commission on Biodiversity and Natural Resources[8] with Sofia Sanchez.[9] She was concerned with oil pollution and that the lack of political will to deal with the perpetrators. Texaco-Chevron has been given a fine of nine billion dollars but it has not been paid.[1] In 2024, she and Roberto Cerda became vice President and President of the "Occasional Specialized Commission of the Amazonian Constituency".[citation needed]
