Suggested update
edit@Kudpung: You suggested making an update to this page (the content of which appears at the top of Special:NewPagesFeed), from the current default of:
- Please review new pages below and help improve Wikipedia. [$1 Learn more] · [$2 Leave feedback]
to something more like:
- Quality and depth of patrolling rather than speed, are quintessential to good reviewing. If you are not sure what to do, please read WP:NPP again, or leave the article for another patroller. [$1 Learn more] · [$2 Leave feedback]
If that is still what you/everyone wants, you can just edit this page directly to update it. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 18:57, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
Script information addition request
editPinging Kudpung as he knows what message would be best.
Would it be possible to change the current message to the following, to include information about the Page Curation script?
- Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature. If you don't know what to do, get help here or leave the article for another reviewer. [$1 Learn more] · [$2 Leave feedback] · Use the Page Curation script
Thanks. Lourdes 08:28, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
- @Lourdes:, Done, but I'm a bit wary that it might be misinterpreted as something that will add a function to patrolling. Theoretically, anyone using the Page Curation is an accredited New Page Reviewer and should know about this already. I'll also put a link to it in a couple of other places though. Update request

Given the number of page curation script users copying the whole script into their common.js page rather than just using the importscript tool, I request that the page be updated to link to the documentation of the page curation script instead of giving the direct link to the script. (The script documentation pages are better in explaining how to install the script, than the script page itself). In others words:
- In MediaWiki:Pagetriage-welcome, the line "Use the Page Curation script." may be changed to "Use the Page Curation script."
Thanks and cheers. Lourdes 14:31, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

- Done. I don't like the double "see" though — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 13:38, 14 January 2019 (UTC)
- @MSGJ: I don't mind if you rephrase it, I just wanted a link. Thanks --DannyS712 (talk) 16:57, 14 January 2019 (UTC)

This adds a link to NewFiles, as well as tweaking the phrasing. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 19:19, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

Please allow the welcome message to be collapsible to maximize the number of articles that can be displayed in the window. The message can be scrolled of the screen, but it is really touchy to scroll to the exact point where only the message is gone, and to do it every time you use the scroll bar. Collapsing the message with one-click would be much easier. Since this is more than a wording change and there is no sandbox here, I have it here. - @MB for validation, is Special:NewPagesFeed the only place this message is invoked? — xaosflux Talk 10:44, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux. Yes. It appears Special:NewPagesFeed is the only location it is invoked. [1][2] –Novem Linguae (talk) 11:19, 23 August 2022 (UTC)
- Done with some miimizatins (w/s cleanup, bypass templates, remove unused template arguments). @Novem Linguae: this should be live now, let me know if any issues. — xaosflux Talk 15:39, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Suggestion: add a note about ongoing backlog drives
editThis edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
Proposing that we add a short message here directing editors to the ongoing backlog drive. It could be added as the fourth bullet, using a temporary template so it only displays while the backlog drive is ongoing, and then can easily be updated for future backlog drives.
For example:
*
Which displays as:
- Sign up for the January NPP backlog drive. Have fun, review articles, and earn barnstars!
Open to any other suggestions or wording/formatting. ––FormalDude (talk) 01:51, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Add 'NPP' somewhere in there, since the NewPagesFeed is also used by AFC folk. Also the until param should be 1st Feb, otherwise it won't show up on 31 January. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:19, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- This is a sensitive time to be requesting changes to this template. Some other changes were declined today for increasing the template's height too much. Please see Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers#Tips in the new pages feed header for context. –Novem Linguae (talk) 08:15, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Addressed MPGuy's comments. As for the height, that recently declined change was a lot bigger than the one I'm suggesting. This one is also temporary, so it will only effect the template's height when a backlog drive is ongoing. ––FormalDude (talk) 00:52, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- I really appreciate your hard work in looking for ideas to tackle the growing backlog. Personally, when I open the feed, the headers don't really catch my eye; I go straight to the filters and then the feed. I feel like we've tried various ways to inform potential helpers/reviewers, but if you think adding headers could enhance things, I'm fully on board with supporting that idea. – DreamRimmer (talk) 01:14, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- I do think it could help. With three supports (including myself) and nobody opposing, I've added the edit request template. ––FormalDude (talk) 06:08, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

- There will be people that complain about even the most trivial changes to familiar UIs. That's no reason to slip into paralysis. Done. – Joe (talk) 08:13, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- Joe, keeping the AFC folk in mind, I think the new message should be within the hideable component. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:16, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't know, it's one line, and I don't think it really fits there semantically (it's neither information "about the new pages feed" or, as that box was previously titled, "general guidance"). – Joe (talk) 09:16, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
