A planned memorial to Queen Elizabeth II is to be built in St James's Park in central London.
Elizabeth died in September 2022 and the plans for the memorial were announced in shortly before the second anniversary of her death in 2024.[1]
It is likely to be a statue or sculpture of Elizabeth, with the final design being publicly announced by 2026, before the anniversary of the centenary of her birth.[1]
The memorial is likely to be a site near the Marlborough Gate of St James's Park in central London. The location has been chosen for its proximity to Buckingham Palace and The Mall and to facilitate the large numbers of visitors and tourists that the area is associated with.[2]
A contest for the statue design will be launched in late 2024.[3]
