Old classes tleft and tright

In L-893 to L-899 this module is applying the old classes tleft and tright (phab:T426452), which should become floatleft and floatright. See also Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#c-Jonesey95-20260525235300-tleft/tright/tnone. Ponor (talk) 15:24, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

I don't see any recent changes but a lot of pages are popping up the error. Interstate Highway System is an example.

The interactive map doesn't load for me, I get an error called "Could not load image details (error: file does not exist: File:Osm-intl,3,30,47,295x295.png)". I don't believe its a local issue because I got the error on multiple platforms. Viewsridge (talk) 21:16, 31 July 2026 (UTC)

This is very likely due to enabled Media Viewer in the preferences. Turning it off seems to solve the issue. Wrapping the mapframe/maplink tag in an element with class="noviewer" is also an option, if turning off Media Viewer is not really wanted. After all it is kinda useful for all the other images.

Should this be addressed in Phabricator as a new bug? I don't really know if it is related to the bug mentioned above or is a completely new one. Ted Masters (talk) 00:37, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

clicking on maps now opens up a PNG?

In Navajo Nation clicking on the map takes me to this page:

It used to open up https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Data:Navajo_Nation.map

Here's how it exists in the Navajo Nation article:

Feature request: marker-symbol

marker-symbol, the ability to label the marker with a letter or number, as described in mw:Help:Extension:Kartographer#Markers does not seem to be available in {{Maplink}}. I think this feature could be useful for editors to distinguish between more than one marker. Commander Keane (talk) 00:17, 16 August 2026 (UTC)

lang selection

(@Kuhni74: fyi): Is there a way to use arbitrary localized names from OSM (e.g. fall back to name:en from e.g. WP:de, if names are all Chinese)? If this is possible with the wikidata - osm interface, would it be possible to add a parameter like lang=en or uselang=en to allow this? best –Herzi Pinki (talk) 17:08, 27 August 2026 (UTC)

This template nor the backend module have a language option, you have to use raw mapframe tags which then allows lang="local", lang="en" etc. Regs, The Equalizer (talk) 22:44, 27 August 2026 (UTC)

thx. could this wrapper for the raw mapframe tag be improved to pass a lang-parameter? WP by language do have a geographical center, but do describe the whole world in general. So maps generated with {{mapframe}} are most useful in local context (where the primary labels in OSM are in local language), but tend to be useless in other areas of the world especially those using different alphabets or even writing systems (like Chinese). --Herzi Pinki (talk) 08:57, 28 August 2026 (UTC)

I did some quick testing but the template/module just do not support it at all, at a minimum the module would have to be rewritten. Only the tag route accepts it. Feature request

On Wikivoyage, with a simple click, you can see a relief map underlay. Is this something we should look at bringing to EN WP?

For example having a relief map at 2026_Nepal_floods would be very useful to improve understanding. Also having a distance bar would be helpful.

I guess I could copy over all the exact code Wikivoyage uses... or we could update this one to include some of the features there.

Sounds good to me. Wikivoyage is part of Wikimedia. So I would think it would be fairly easy to just copy over what they are using. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:38, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
