Abbrevation
editHello User:Fredddie, for the Main Roads you added the abbreviation H. I removed it again because:
- In Switzerland it's very rare to abbreviate such roads with "H". The abbrevation is used in German Switzerland for Autobahns and Autostrassen which do not have an Autobahn number but have a Main Road number (and they're rare).
- On roads only the number is shown. On newspapers and so on the words are written out ("Hauptstrasse" in german, "route principale" in french, "strade principali" in italian and "via principala" in romanic).
- The abbrevation H stands for Hauptstrasse and would ignore the usage in other parts of Switzerland than German Switzerland.
I hope you can follow my "semi-revert". --Gr1 (talk) 07:17, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- Interesting. I added that because of a suggestion from the French Wikipedia. –Fredddie™ 11:13, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for the hint, I investigated it a bit further. There is an regulation concordant the main routes in Switzerland (it's the main source for List of Swiss main roads). And in it's french edition it's defined: "H = route principale" (example H4, without space between H and number) [1]. It seems that I was wrong, not you... --Gr1 (talk) 11:40, 11 October 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing the digging. Glad we could get it right. –Fredddie™ 00:09, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
