The government of Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali was formed after appointment by the president of Syria on 23 September 2024 and new Council of Ministers took the oath of office on 24 September 2024, after the 2024 Syrian parliamentary election held on 15 July 2024.[2][3] This replaced the caretaker ministry formed in July.[4] The government is the 96th since Syria gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1918 and is the ninth during the presidency of Bashar al-Assad.[5]

Background
editOn 13 September 2024, President Bashar al-Assad, General Secretary of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party, held consultations with the party's Central Command and Assistant General Secretary Ibrahim al-Hadid, about assigning a Prime Minister to form the new Council of Ministers.[6] Following the consultations, President al-Assad issued a decree appointing former Communications Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali as Prime Minister of Syria on 14 September.[2] The new cabinet took the constitutional oath on 24 September 2024, then President Bashar al-Assad presided over the first meeting of the new cabinet.[7]
The ministerial formation includes 28 ministers, with the Prime Minister, including 13 ministers from the previous Second Hussein Arnous government and two ministers of state. Among the members of the government are 25 men and 3 women.
