Background and development
editOn August 13, 2010, Tsai released her 11th studio album, Myself.[3] On August 26, 2010, she revealed plans to launch a new concert tour around Christmas.[4] On November 6, 2010, Tsai officially announced that her third world tour, titled Myself World Tour, would begin on December 24 at Taipei Arena in Taipei, Taiwan. The tour was themed "The Party for Everybody".[5]
Commercial reception
editTickets for the Taipei shows of the tour went on sale at 12:00 PM on November 6, 2010.[6] All tickets sold out within two days, prompting the addition of an additional show in Taipei on December 26, 2010.[7] In April 2011, it was reported that tickets for the Hong Kong show on June 24, 2011, sold out on the first day of sales, leading to the announcement of an additional Hong Kong performance on June 25, 2011.[8] For the Kaohsiung show of the tour, tickets went on sale at 1:00 PM on March 16, 2013,[9] and sold out within 18 minutes.[10]
Recording
editOn October 19, 2013, Tsai released a live video album titled Myself World Tour. The album features live performances from Taipei Arena on December 22–23, 2012.[11] It was released in two versions: the standard edition and the limited edition.[12] The former includes 39 live performance tracks and the music video for the song "Journey", while the latter contains all the content from the former, along with additional bonus material, including behind-the-scenes footage, a duo pole dance performance from the Kaohsiung show, and specially re-recorded solo pole dance performance. Warner revealed that some of the tracks featured on the album were licensed from Tsai's previous record labels, D Sound and Sony, making it her most comprehensive live video album of her career to date.[12]
The album achieved commercial success in Taiwan, topping the weekly video album sales charts at major retailers such as Books.com.tw, Eslite, Chia Chyun Record, G-Music, and Five Music.[13] In 2013, the album ranked 3rd on the Kuang Nan's annual video album sales chart and 1st on the Five Music annual video album sales chart.[14][15]
