Nanjing Institute of Technology

The Nanjing Institute of Technology (NJIT; Chinese: 南京工程学院) is a provincial public institute in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China, located at No. 1 Hongjing Avenue, Jiangning District, Nanjing, Jiangsu. Postal Code: 211167. The institute is affiliated with the Province of Jiangsu and sponsored by the provincial government.

The institute was established in June 2000 through the merger of Nanjing Mechanical Higher Vocational School (南京机械高等专科学校) and Nanjing Electric Power Higher Vocational School (南京电力高等专科学校). Now this institute is actively exploring application-oriented education, distinguishing itself from those more research-focused universities. Upholding the motto of “Learning for Application” and the spirit of “Integrating Knowledge and Practice, Inspiring Entrepreneurship and Innovation”, NJIT plays an initiative role in China to advocate for “cultivating application-oriented talents” and to implement “application-oriented undergraduate education”.

As of 2023, NJIT is accredited with confer 73 bachelor's and 3 master's degrees. The institute offers programs in disciplines including engineering, management, arts and science. The institute has more than 2,100 faculty and staff, including more than 1,600 full-time instructors, 45.42% of full-time instructors or professors own doctorate degrees. Tuition fees are charged at the standard around 5,000-6,000 RMB per student per academic year for most majors. Accommodation Fee are charged RMB 1,000 and RMB 1,200 per student per academic year.

Since 2018, the Nanjing Institute of Technology (NJIT) has been collaborating with the University of Oulu, Finland, in a Sino-Finnish cooperative undergraduate joint education program. This partnership has yielded remarkable success over the past few years. Currently, the program offers three majors: Software Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering. The faculty comprises professors from ten countries, including China, Finland, the United States, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand. Students who successfully complete the four-year curriculum at Oulu School in NJIT, pass all required examinations, and meet the academic criteria, are eligible to receive a Bachelor of Engineering degree from NJIT and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Oulu. Tuition fees are charged at the standard of RMB 51,000 per student per academic year for this collaborated program. Accommodation Fee are charged RMB 1,000 and RMB 1,200 per student per academic year, same to all other majors students.

The institute actively engages in international exchanges and foreign collaborations, establishing long-term partnerships with various countries and regions, including Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, and South Korea. In collaboration with Northumbria University in the UK, NJIT offers a joint program in Electrical Engineering and its Automation (Electrical and Electronic Engineering). Additionally, we have partnered with the University of Strathclyde in the UK, the University of Magdeburg in Germany, The University of Wales Trinity Saint David, and Fontys University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands for joint educational ventures. Currently, we are a proud member of several alliances, such as the China-Finland University Association of Applied Sciences, the Jiangsu-Korea University Cooperation Alliance, the Jiangsu-Canada University Cooperation Alliance (since 2020 October), and the China-Thailand Higher Education Cooperation Alliance.
