Norberto Reinoso was a Dominican militant and hero of the Dominican Restoration War. A native of Puerto Plata, he worked as a woodpecker. He later became a dedicated officer of the restoration forces, he took up arms since the action began in Puerto Plata. The night of August 27, 1863, he landed there a powerful column led by General Primo de Rivera, sent to reinforce from Cuba to aid the Spanish forces on the island. That contingent left immediately towards Santiago where the Spanish were besieged. He took the Palo Quemado route and there the commanders Juan Bonilla, Rasín Isurún, Francisco Reyes Marión and other leaders with their respective troops carried out the feat of stopping the advance of that enormous force and make it return under fire to its starting point. In that episode of the war, Norberto Reynoso stood out for his heroic courage. Later he was chief of artillery from the active canton of Las Jabillas. Reynoso remained active in the political and armed struggles that registered in the country after the Spanish were expelled from the island in 1865.[1]
He suffered imprisonment in the Ozama Fortress under the dictatorship of Buenaventura Báez during the Six Years’ War. He died in 1883 in his native Puerto Plata and was buried with due honors. President Ulises Heureaux was among those who attended the funeral services.[2]
