At the time of the 2006 National Census, the village's population was 91 in 28 households.[4] The following census in 2011 counted 72 people in 26 households.[2]

After the census, the district separated from the county in the establishment of Buin Miandasht County. The rural district was transferred to the new Karchambu District. Nowghan-e Sofla merged with Nowghan-e Olya and changed its name to Nowghan.[5]
