Oedemera tristis can reach a body length of about 9–12 mm (0.35–0.47 in). It is an elongated insect with a soft, black body.[1] Males have large, swollen posterior thighs (metafemurs).[citation needed] The elytra are divergent at their ends and reveal the wings.[citation needed]

Distribution and habitat

This species is present in most Europe.[2] These insects live in meadows and forest edges.[citation needed]

Byology and ecology

Oedemera tristis is phytophagous.[citation needed] It feeds on nectar and pollen from the flowers of herbaceous plants (dandelions, buttercups, etc.).[citation needed] The larvae are xylophagous. Adults can be found from April to August.[citation needed]
