Peter Timothy O'Heeron

Peter (Pete) Timothy O’Heeron (born October 7, 1963) is an American businessperson, inventor, and executive in the biotechnology and medical technology industries. He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of FibroBiologics, a company focused on developing and commercializing fibroblast-based cell therapies.[1] O'Heeron holds over 350 patents issued and pending in biologics, cell therapy, and medical devices, making him one of the most prolific biopharma inventors of his generation.[2][3][4]

Early life and education

O'Heeron was born on October 7, 1963, to Michael Kinney O’Heeron and Judith Evelyn O’Neil. He was raised in Lake Jackson, Texas, and attended Brazoswood High School with current U.S. Senator Rand Paul and Bayer Pharma AG CEO Bill Anderson.[5] He pursued his undergraduate education at Texas State University, earning a degree in Healthcare Administration in 1986. He later obtained a Master's in Healthcare Administration from the University of Houston–Clear Lake in 1988. In 2017, O'Heeron completed an Executive Program in Mergers and Acquisitions at the University of Chicago.[6]

Career

O'Heeron began his career in the healthcare industry, gaining executive-level experience at Christus Health Care Corporation. He became a regional product development leader in sports medicine and optimization of physician practice management. In addition, O’Heeron has provided strategic advisory services to various healthcare companies, particularly in biologics, advanced surgical instrumentation, and telemedicine.[7]

In 2006, O'Heeron founded Advanced Medical Technologies, an operational investment group. One of his notable ventures was NeoSurg Technologies, which developed the T2000 Minimally Invasive Access System. The company was later sold to Cooper Surgical.[7]

O'Heeron founded FibroBiologics (formerly FibroGenesis, LLC), where he currently serves as CEO. Under his leadership, the company has focused on developing fibroblast-based cell therapies for treating chronic diseases.[8] His contributions to the field have accumulated over 350 patents in biologics, cell therapy, and medical devices.

O’Heeron took FibroBiologics public on the Nasdaq through a direct listing, which made it the first biopharma to achieve a listing on the Nasdaq Gloable Exchange through a direct listing.

O’Heeron has been involved in several notable ventures, including SpinalCyte, a company focused on spinal disc regeneration; Cold River Records, a country music record label;[1] and Christus Health. As of 2024, O’Heeron’s net worth is over $30 million.[9]

Personal life

O'Heeron married Dorothy Angela O’Heeron in August 1986, and they have three children, Conner, Parker, and Grace.  Pete’s grandfather, Michael O’Heeron, M.D., was a world-renowned Urologist/Surgeon and one of the founders of the Urological Society of America.
