The 2006 Rose Bowl Game, which was presented by Citi, was the final game and national championship of the 2005-2006 Bowl Championship Series, and was played on January 4, 2006, at the eponymous stadium in Pasadena, California. The game matched the two remaining unbeaten NCAA Division I-A squads: Big 12 Conference champion University of Texas and two-time defending national champion and Pacific Ten Conference titleholder University of Southern California, said by many to be the greatest college football team in history. Although the game, billed as the greatest championship game ever by ESPN, saw a back-and-forth contest, it was ultimately won by the Longhorns, 41-38, when quarterback Vince Young rushed for a touchdown with 19 seconds to play.
