When their food stores run out and the famine worsens, Judah becomes surety for his brother Benjamin, and prevails upon his father to let him go down to Egypt according to the request of Joseph. Jacob agrees to Judah's promise to protect Benjamin from harm. The brothers return to Joseph, and when Joseph sees Benjamin he is overcome with emotion. Joseph receives them kindly and throws a feast for them.
