- In 5564 (1803 CE), Rabbi Avraham Danzig survived an explosion, declaring 16 Kislev a "Purim" for himself and his descendants.
- In 5653 (1892 CE), Hermann Ahlwardt was elected to the German Reichstag, marking the beginning of political antisemitism in Germany.
- In 5700 (1939 CE), under Nazi occupation, Suwałki, Poland deported its 6,000 Jews to concentration camps. Almost no one survived.
