- 14 Nov: Bruce Flegg resigns as the Queensland Minister for Housing and Public Works after a series of damaging allegations are made public.
- 11 Jul: It is announced that Brisbane will host the 2014 G-20 Australia summit in November 2014.
- 29 May: The first mine proposed to be developed in the Galilee Basin, known as the Alpha Coal Project, is approved by the Government of Queensland.
- 24 Mar: The Liberal National Party of Queensland wins the 2012 Queensland state election.
- 16 Mar: The Commission of Inquiry into the 2010-11 Queensland floods hands its final report to the Premier of Queensland.
- 27 Feb: Brisbane based WOW Sight & Sound enters liquidation due to a decline in revenue and bad debts.
- 22 Feb: Kevin Rudd (pictured), resigns as Minister for Foreign Affairs, sighting the 2012 Queensland state election as a significant reason.
- 17 Feb: Brisbane-based Air Australia is placed into administration and all of its flights are cancelled.
- 15 Feb: Brisbane Airport announces that work on the second parallel runway would commence in July 2012 and be operational by 2020.
- 16 Jan: Premier Anna Bligh calls the 2012 Queensland state election for 24 March.

- 14 Oct: A Cairns couple are found not-guilty of procuring an illegal abortion.
- 6 Oct: Water from Burdekin Dam flows over the spillway, a rare event for October.
- 4 Oct: Water is released from Wivenhoe Dam for the first time since 2001.

- 4 Sep: The 2010 Birdsville Races are cancelled for the first time because of flooding on the track.
