- 1881 – The Canada Central Railway is merged into the Canadian Pacific Railway.
- 1959 – The Chicago, Aurora and Elgin Railroad, an interurban railway serving Chicago's western suburbs, ceases freight operations, thus bringing an end to all of the railroad's operations.
- 2005 – Service is restored on the Alaska Railroad after the Moody Tunnel was closed for three days due to damage when a large forklift loaded on a southbound train struck one of the tunnel's timber supports, causing a partial collapse of the tunnel.
