- 1988 - Hurricane Joan struck southeastern Nicaragua as a Category 4 hurricane, killing 216 people and leaving more than US$2 billion in damage.
- 1998 - Typhoon Babs hit the Philippines eight days after Typhoon Zeb. Babs killed 221 people in the Philippines and caused over $6.5 billion of damage, which prompted a recession in the country.
- 2003 - Typhoon Ketsana (pictured), while east of the Philippines, reaches its peak strength as a Category 4 with 10-minute winds of 165 km/h (105 mph).
- 2010 - Cyclone Giri struck Myanmar while rapidly intensifying, killing 157 people.
