Portal:Astronomy/Events/20142014 in astronomy – For consistency with another pages such as 2014 in science, 2014 in spaceflight, 2014 in archaeology. From the first line: This page is about the year 2014 in astronomy. Also with 2013, 2012... articles etc. Maybe merge month articles to one main "YEAR in astronomy" article. Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Support per nom--John123521 (Talk-Contib.) RA 00:40, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose create a new article at the proposed title(s) instead. This is a list of astronomical events, not a list of things that occurred in astronomy, the scope of the new title is greater. And an article requires references, which this does not have. This current portal page clearly excludes many things than an articlespace article would not (like births, deaths, publications, construction of observatories, etc) -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:49, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose. As the IP 65.94.171.126 has pointed out, the content and purpose of this page is quite different to that of the articles quoted by the nom. There is therefore no consistency issue, and no valid rationale for the proposed move. Andrewa (talk) 03:23, 6 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Any additional comments:
  • Comment this turns a portal page into an article. Portals and articles have different standards for inclusion, and articles require references, while this is wholly unreferenced, so will be subject to deletion on that basis, as well as notability concerns. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:49, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Was WikiProject Astronomy consulted before proposing this move? They certainly should have been. Andrewa (talk) 03:23, 6 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
