Portal talk:Scotland/Related portals

The related portals section in portals should link only to those portals parallel in the hierarchy and the portal from which it descends. In this case the hierarchy is as follows: Portal:GeographyPortal:EuropePortal:United KingdomPortal:England (→ Portal:London), Portal:Northern Ireland, Portal:Scotland, Portal:Wales. Thus Portal:Scotland/Related portals logically links to Portal:England, Portal:Northern Ireland and Portal:Wales as its sisters and to Portal:United Kingdom as its parent (which in turn links to Portal:Europe of which Portal:European Union is a subportal). "Related" is not always literal. I hope this somewhat clarifies any confusion.--cj | talk 09:06, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

In that case you had better select a far better word than "related", because the Scotland portal is "related" to every other portal on Wikipedia. You are trying to use Wikipedia to make a political point: stop it. This portal is just as much about geography, history and culture as it is about politics.--Mais oui! 09:45, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry? Way not to assume good faith. I'm not sure how your not following the logic (I presume you've assumed I'm affronting Scotish nationalism or something? Let me know, 'cause I'm baffled as to what point you think I'm making). This is a portal about a location and is thus in the geography family (and this doesn't mean it's a portal about the geography of Scotland - it's still a portal about Scotland and all that that encompasses).--cj | talk 11:13, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Mais oui! if you think that all portals are related, then why not add every portal that exists to this portal section, and not just the Europe and Ireland ones?

I think, from a logical standpoint, that Cyberjunkie is correct in this matter: there is a hierarchy. If you go to the 'superportal', you will find yourself at Europe eventually. Being a part of the UK, Scotland is also, de facto, a part of Europe. Ireland does not fit into the related portals for obvious reasons - it does not follow the logical hierarchial(is that a word?) structure. When I added the newly-created Northern Ireland portal, I left the Ireland portal alone (it was the only other, non-UK portal in this article) because I feel that it should ultimately be decided by Scottish Wikipedians who are living in Scotland. --Mal 12:48, 6 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
