Qanat Aldabergenuly Bozymbaev (Kazakh: Қанат Алдабергенұлы Бозымбаев, romanizedQanat Aldabergenūly Bozymbaev, [qɑˈnɑt ɑɫdɑ.bʲerˈɡʲeno̙ɫɯ bɔˈzɯmbɑjɯf]; born 8 January 1969) is a Kazakh politician, who has been serving as Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan since 31 March 2024.[1]

Prior to being Deputy Prime Minister, Bozymbaev has held several ministry and local government positions, including the offices of Advisor to the President (2023–2024), Akim of Almaty Region (2021–2022), Assistant to the President (2019–2022), Minister of Energy (2016–2019) and Akim of the Pavlodar (2013–2016) and Jambyl (2009–2013) Regions.

Bozymbaev is infamous for being a controversial figure in Kazakh politics, particularly a gaffe, in which when talking to the people of Taldykorgan during the 2022 Kazakh unrest, he, then-Akim of Almaty Region, accidentally cursed at a citizen.[1][2]

Early career

Bozymbaev was born on 8 January 1969.

He graduated from Kazakh State Academy of Management in Narxoz University in 1993. From September to November 1997, he is the head of the department of regional policy in the Ministry of Economy and Trade. From September 1998 to February 2001, he served as the director of the department of oil and gas and vice minister in the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Trade.[3]

He previously served as the governor of Pavlodar Region prior to his appointment as Energy Minister.[4]

From December 18, 2019 to November 24, 2021 — Assistant to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.[5]

From November 24 , 2021 to June 10 , 2022 — held the post of Akim of Almaty region.[6][7]
