History

edit

On 12 December 2022, it was announced that Lusail International Circuit would host the opening round of the FIA World Endurance Championship from 2024 under a 6-year contract.[1] The race was announced as the 6 Hours of Qatar and was preceded by the Prologue, also set to take place at the circuit.[2]

At an Automobile Club de l'Ouest press conference ahead of the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, the race name was changed to Qatar 1812 km.[3] The race length of 1812 km is derived from the date of Qatar National Day, 18 December, and it has a time limit of 10 hours.[4]
