The Red King (Darrin Profitt) is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. He first appeared in JLA Secret Files 2004 #1 (November 2004), and was created by Dan Slott and Dan Jurgens.

Publication history
editThe Red King's first appearance was in JLA Secret Files 2004 #1 (November 2004), set up to tie into an arc in the main JLA book. The "4th Parallel" arc in which he is introduced was shelved for three years until JLA Classified #32-36, which were published bi-weekly from January to March 2007.
Fictional character biography
editDarrin Profitt is a civilian who obtains Doctor Destiny's Materioptikon following a battle between him and the Justice League. He uses its power to create parallel universes, through which he manipulates the stock market and becomes a billionaire.[1]
Out of boredom, Profitt attempts to conquer the world and battles the Justice League. He is eventually defeated and imprisoned in the Materioptikon, where Destiny tortures him.[2][3][4]
Powers and abilities
editUsing the Materioptikon, Profitt can create a finite number of parallel universes that act as mathematical models to determine favorable outcomes. He also possesses numerous metahuman abilities, including the ability to generate electricity and ice.
