Overview

edit

Simmons' depiction of Batman Kissing Superman gained notability when it was painted in London and New York City.[1] In 2015 the mural in London was defaced in an act of 'homophobic vandalism', reaching condemnation from the leader of Croydon Council leader Tony Newman, also the owner of a print by Simmons. [2]

In 2011, he commemorated the wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William with a punk mural on an official graffiti wall on London's South Bank, inspired by the iconic 1970s photograph of the Sex Pistols’ Sid Vicious and girlfriend Nancy Reid taken by Jamie Reid.[3]

In 2012, 2013 and 2014 Simmons had solo shows at Imitate Modern in London's West End.[4] From 2014 to 2015 he had a solo show at Soho Contemporary Art in SoHo, Manhattan.[5]

In 2022, a Burberry trench coat painted by Simmons was shown at London Fashion Week, in a collaboration with label Gent London, to promote sustainability and climate awareness. Simmons used a pop-art butterfly technique he is known for called “Skullerflies", with a percentage of the proceeds of the garment's sale donated to environmental charities.[6]
