Early life and education
editNivola was born in Portland Hospital, London, to British actress Emily Mortimer and American actor Alessandro Nivola.[1][2] He has a younger sister, May (born 2010), who is also an actor.[1][3] He grew up in the New York City neighborhood of Boerum Hill in Brooklyn.[4] He attended Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn and then Columbia University.[4]
Career
editNivola made his acting debut in the television series Doll & Em (2013), starring his mother.[5] In 2021, he and his sister played siblings on an episode of The Pursuit of Love, a television miniseries written and directed by their mother.[4][5] Nivola wrote and directed a short film, Neighborhood Watch, for the anthology With/In (2021), which consisted of films shot on smartphones about life in quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic.[5][6]
Nivola and his sister played two of the central family's children in Noah Baumbach's film White Noise (2022).[7] At the callback audition for White Noise, Baumbach had asked Nivola if his sister wanted to audition for the role she eventually played in the film.[4] The next year, Nivola played the son of Leonard Bernstein in Bradley Cooper's Maestro.[8] It was announced in January 2024 that he was cast in The White Lotus season three.[9]
