Sanjeev Kumar (politician born 1979)

Sanjeev Kumar (born 8 November 1979) is an Indian politician from Bihar. He is a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.[1][2] He won from Parbatta Assembly constituency in Khagaria district representing Janata Dal (United)[3] in the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election.

Early life and education

Kumar was born in Patna, Bihar. His father Ramanand Prasad Singh was five time MLA from Patbatta and also served as Transport Minister in the Nitish Kumar government.[4][5] He completed his M.B.B.S. at King Edweard Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College. He runs a pathology centre.[6]

Career

Kumar started his political journey in 2005 but won as an MLA for the first time Parbatta Assembly constituency in the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly election. He polled 77,226 votes and defeated his nearest rival, Digambar Prasad Tiwary from Rashtriya Janata Dal by a margin of 951 votes.[7]

After the under construction Sultanganj-Aguwani ghat bridge over river Ganga collapsed on 4 June 2023[8] in Bihar's Khagaria district, being the MLA from the region, Kumar demanded that the head of the State Road Construction Department be held responsible for the incident.[9][10]
