History
editThe Shkëndija women’s football team was established in September 2010, largely from the efforts of Jovan Bardhi, a coach at the “Sport Mastery” school in Durrës. With the support of a small group of local girls, Bardhi launched a new chapter for women’s football in the region.
Ilda Topçiu, a celebrated figure in Albanian women’s volleyball, joined as an assistant coach. Training sessions took place between the Sport Palace in Durrës and the Niko Dovana Stadium, with head coach Ardian Cako leading preparations for the team’s participation in the second national women’s football championship.
The first players to wear the Shkëndija jersey included L. Gjini, G. Mehmetaj, E. Lici, Xh. Bardhi, A. Disha, A. Tola, A. Kola, I. Xhafa, I. Hodo, M. Cemeri, Sh. Gjepali, M. Adilaj and the Xhakola sisters.
Bardhi successfully registered the team in time for the 2010–11 championship, where the young squad displayed determination and consistency, earning 16 points and finishing ahead of three other teams in the final standings.[1]
